Celebrating the legacy of Atómikas Twins on International Women's Day
This March 8, International Women's Day, we want to honor two players who came to the world of padel ready to revolutionize it. And boy, did they do it.
They are none other than our beloved Atómikas twins, Mapi and Majo Sánchez Alayeto. Sisters who last December put an end to a successful career in the professional circuit that lasted more than 15 years, leaving behind an indelible legacy in our favorite sport.
In 2007 they hung up their tennis racquets to try their luck with padel. At that time, not even the most optimistic could have imagined what was to come. From the very beginning they captivated the public with their innovative game and unwavering determination, which led them to play a total of 52 World Padel Tour finals. With a clearly aggressive style and outstanding competitive mentality, they changed the way in which women's padel was understood, becoming a reference for the new generations of players.
For years they were among the most feared rivals on court, born fighters who managed to be number 1 in four seasons and win 32 titles throughout their career.
In addition to their sporting achievements, the Atomic Twins also stood out for their courage in the face of off-court adversity. Mapi's diagnosis of relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis in 2021 was a challenge they faced with fortitude and courage, demonstrating once again their mental strength and ability to overcome any obstacle.
Last year, at the World Padel Tour Final Master, they were paid a well-deserved tribute in recognition of their extraordinary professional career and contribution to the sport. An emotional celebration in which, under the watchful eye of nearly 16,000 fans, they relived some of their best moments on the circuit.
From NOX we are proud to have witnessed the incredible journey of the Atomic Twins and to have been part of their history. For us it was not a farewell, we will be happy to continue walking by their side in this new chapter of their life and any project with which they seek to continue revolutionizing the world of padel.
Today, we also take this opportunity to applaud all our great players who currently make up Team NOX. It is a pleasure to be able to say that we have great figures of padel at international level such as Aranzazu Osoro, Victoria Kurz, Tia Norton, Léa Godallier, Manuela Schuck or Pati Ribeiro, among many others.
We can't wait to see them shine in this new season!
